What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of porcelain or dental resin that are cemented to the front surfaces of your teeth. Your teeth are prepped minimally, and these shells are glued on to mask imperfections in the color, shape and cracks on your teeth. In general, veneers are used to improve the aesthetics of your smile.

What is involved in a Dental Veneer Procedure In Singapore?

The process typically involves the following steps:

Our dentist will give you a mirror discuss what you like or don’t like about your smile. Do bring your family with you if you think they can help convey your wishes! Perhaps you may want to conceal certain flaws or cracks in your tooth structure or may want the shape of your teeth to be changes for a fuller smile. We will also determine if you have underlying gum disease or tooth decay. Disease always needs to be treated before we move into aesthetic treatment!

If you are a suitable candidate for veneers, our team will create a personalised treatment plan for you. We will use a 3D scanner and photographs to take records of your teeth X-rays of your teeth will also be taken to ensure there are no small cavities hidden beneath the surface. A digital smile design will then be done up so that you can visualise your final smile.

At this visit, we will give you a small amount of local anesthesia to make you comfortable. We will then proceed to remove a thin layer of enamel in the front of the teeth. This is to accommodate for the veneers which will be glued on in the future.

Your dentist will then take dental scans of your teeth. These dental scans are 3D printed and are sent digitally to the laboratory.

Your prepared teeth models will be sent to a lab technician, usually a highly skilled ceramist. He or she will start the artwork  of crafting these teeth shells and design your smile, to ensure a natural and beautiful smile.

A set of temporary veneers will be cemented on while waiting for the permanent veneers to be crafted. This should be very similar to the final smile! Any changes can still be made at this point. So do point it out to your dentist!

The dentist will remove the temporary veneers once the permanent veneers are ready. Your new veneers crafted specially for you is now ready to be cemented into your mouth to enhance your smile!

The dentist will then check that your bite is good and that you can chew  and eat well. Some final adjustments to the occlusion may be made and we will give you tips to care for your veneers and ensure longevity.

Who needs veneers?

Veneers may be a suitable option for you if you have stains or roughness on your teeth that do not come out with scaling and polishing or whitening protocols.

What results can I expect?

When you choose to have veneers in Singapore, there are several outcomes you can expect that can enhance the appearance of your smile, these are:

Improved Tooth Colour

You can choose a shade with your dentist and mask the stains that bother you.

Enhanced tooth shape

Veneers can be used to design your smile and make it more symmetrical.

Closure of gaps and spaces

Veneers can close small gaps so your teeth look less “gappy”. It can also cover some dark triangles.

Straighter Teeth

If the crowding of the teeth is mild, veneers can create the illusion of straighter teeth. If the crowding is bad, we may indicate Invisalign treatment to even out the smile line before veneers.

Improved Overall Smile Aesthetics

Veneers can have a transformative effect on your smile and face, enhancing your self confidence and smile!

How do I take care of my veneers?

Brush your teeth  twice a day using gentle, circular motions to clean your veneers and natural teeth. Flossing daily helps remove plaque. You don’t want to get cavities underneath your veneers!

Avoid chewing on ice or your fingernails as the veneers are glued on. Any excessive forces can pop of the veneers so you have to be very careful! Your dentist may also recommend a nightguard to protect your teeth from grinding forces at night.

Do reduce intake of dark-colored food or drinks and it can stain your veneers and your natural teeth. OR remember to rinse your mouth with water once there is intake of these dark substances!

Visit your dentist 6 monthly for us to check on the health of the veneers. Like a car, even your teeth need to be serviced regularly to catch any problems like tooth decay.

Smoking and tobacco can really stain your teeth and is so bad for your heath. Avoiding smoking is not just good for your health, it is also healthy for your family and your veneers!

With proper care and maintenance, your veneers can last anywhere between 5 to 15 years.

Not at all! You may feel the slight sting of the needle but we do give copious amounts of numbing cream to help you with the sting! The minimal preparation of your teeth do not hurt.

Once your teeth are shaved, we cannot grow your natural tooth enamel back. Once you have veneers, it is important to understand that you cannot revert back to your natural teeth.

We will need to see if we can reattach the veneer. It largely depends on why the veneer fell off in the first place. If it fell off due to excessive forces like chewing on ice or grinding, cracks in the may be detected. In which case we will not be able to cement the veneer back.
